Volunteer Roles
- Radio Operator Monitor emergency calls and dispatch rescue crews. Help coordinate vital communication during rescue operations.
- Rescue Vessel Crew Join our on-water team, equipped with modern rescue vessels, and help bring boaters home safely.
- Community Support Help out with fundraising, admin, maintenance, catering, or event support—these roles are just as important in keeping our unit operational.
How to Join
- Learn More Start with the Marine Rescue NSW Member Induction Handbook or chat to one of our local volunteers at the Jervis Bay unit.
- Express Interest Fill out the Expression of Interest (EOI) form on the Marine Rescue NSW website and select Jervis Bay as your preferred unit.
- Suitability Check We’ll get in touch to talk about your interest and any current openings in the unit.
- Interview (if required) You may be invited to visit our base for an informal chat and look around.
- Apply Submit your full application online, choosing Jervis Bay as your unit.
- Acceptance Our Unit Commander (or delegate) will review your application, meet with you, and carry out a police check as part of the process.
- Provisional Member You’ll start as a Provisional Member with a provisional uniform. After at least six months and completing basic training, you’ll be eligible to become a regular member.
- Regular Member Once confirmed, you’ll receive your full uniform and voting rights at unit meetings and elections.
- Annual Renewal Each year you’ll need to renew your membership by meeting minimum participation and training requirements.
